JCLA Part of Team Selected for Alexandria Riverfront Development

A consortium's wide-ranging plan for a public-private partnership to boldly transform downtown Alexandria includes tearing down City Hall and using that site for green space.

It also suggests major recreational, entertainment and development enhancements for the area along the Red River, including a multi-level building that would have retail, restaurant, office space and housing components.

The plan was submitted to the city of Alexandria by a group called RADD after the city put out the call for ideas and proposals to enhance the riverfront area as part of its Riverfront Improvement Venture and Essential Recreation Act, known as the R.I.V.E.R. Act.
